To solve this, without negative implications, the link is now a Back link and it takes you to the page you came from. If you came from the Gifts list, it will take you back there, and if from the donor page, it will return you there.

If I understand the question correctly, I actually find this feature helpful when I'm entering a handful of gifts because the contact name autofill function is strong enough that I find it faster to enter a gift, then start entering another immediately after and I just start typing the next donor's name and it usually pops right up (if they're in the system) and then I add the amount and date and so on and save and it's ready for the next gift. Thus my "vote" would probably be to keep it as is.
